'I can't believe it's already been a year,' Victoria thought to herself as she sat down across from Kellen at one of their favorite restaurants, Fed's. After having spent the warm spring afternoon on a deserted beach, they sat down for pizza and pasta in celebration of one very happy year together.
This was only the second time eating at Federici's for Victoria, though the small Italian eatery had quickly become one of her favorites. As she looked at the menu already knowing what she wanted, she thought back to the first time Kellen had taken her there about ten months earlier. After telling him how much she enjoyed thin crust pizza, Kellen told her that he knew an amazing place that makes some of the best thin crust in the world. Federici's definitely did not disappoint. And now, a year after their first date, they were back there celebrating their first happy year together.
What a year it had been. As their drinks and salad arrived at the table, Victoria thought back to all the moments she and Kellen spent together, along with the unfortunate time they had to spend apart. Starting college, they had no idea how to make a relationship work that was separated by 550 miles. Through the first semester and a half of college, they missed each other every day and counted down the days left until they could be together again. Seven of their first twelve months were spent apart from each other, holding on through Skype, snail mail, and texting. But through it all, Victoria wouldn't have wanted it any other way. As the famous thin crust pizza made its way to the table, Victoria looked at Kellen and smiled, feeling blessed to have spent a year with the most wonderful boyfriend.
